Obituary for Martha Mae Nedelka

Martha Mae  Nedelka
Martha Mae Nedelka of Upper Nyack died peacefully on May 3, 2014.
Marty was a lifelong resident of the Nyacks, born to Helen and Don Christian in 1929. Following graduation from Nyack High School in 1946 she worked for Nyack Telephone as a switchboard operator. Marty married Victor Nedelka in 1948 and they lovingly raised 4 children in the great neighborhood of Upper Nyack. Marty later performed bookkeeping and other managerial services for Don Christian Welding, the family business in Nanuet, NY. She was an active member of the Nanuet II Senior Citizens Club, serving multiple terms as President and earning the “Rockland County Senior Citizen of the Year” award in 1998 . She was a diehard Mets fan and a member of St. Ann’s Parish in Nyack.
Marty was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Victor Nedelka, in 2003; her parents, and her brother, Donald Christian in 1979. Survivors include her children: Gayle Carpenter of Clifton Park, NY, Gary Nedelka and his wife Bunny of Mendham, NJ, Terry Nedelka of Suffern, NY, and Christine Lennon and her husband Michael of Brookfield, CT. Marty is also survived by her sister Barbara Conklin of Airmont, NY and four grandchildren: Katie Nedelka, Colin, Kendra and Claire Lennon. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law Bill Nedelka, Wilmington NY, sisters-in-law Betty Gallo and MaryAnn Nedelka both of Upper Nyack, NY, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 8, 2014 at 10AM at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Nyack. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visiting is scheduled for Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at http://www.alzfdn.org/.
