Obituary for Katherine B. Ogden

Katherine B. Ogden, a 95 year Rockland resident, passed peacefully to be with her
Lord on December 8, 2015. Kay was born in Nyack to Esther and Herbert V. Baldwin
and grew up on Mansfield Ave. It was in Nyack that she met Herbert Ogden, her
sweetheart and husband. Kay graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1942, and
married Herb that same year, just before he was deployed overseas during W.W. II.
After the war, they lived first at Shanks Village and then on Fulle Drive in Valley Cottage, where they brought up their family. Kay worked in the laboratory at Nyack Hospital until her retirement.
Kay will be remembered as a busy, loving woman with many interests. She was
active in her lifelong church, First Reformed Church of Nyack, in the Womens Guild, and enjoyed her favorite activity, singing in the choir. Kay was a member of Monday
Morning Music Club. She also loved watching the birds and gardening, and was a
member of Forest Glen Garden Club. But the activity she loved best was spending time
with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will all remember
her loving care and great cooking. Kay will also be remembered for her devotion to
helping others. She transported for the Red Cross, volunteered at blood drives, and
helped anyone who needed to be taken to a doctor, cared for at home, or just a friend
for a chat. She lived her faith by showing love to others.
In her last years, Kay found friendship and caring while living in her apartment in
Dowling Gardens, Sparkill. In her final months, Hospice provided loving help and
support while she remained in her apartment.
Kay was predeceased by her brother Herbert V. Jr. and her husband Herbert S.
Ogden Jr. She is survived by her son Kehn Ogden, of Satellite Beach, Florida, formerly
of Glenwood Springs Colorado, her daughter and son-in-law Carol and Skip Russell,
grandchildren and their spouses Kirstin and Marc Stacey, Craig and Megan Russell,
Melissa and Mark Biffert, and great-grandchildren Pierce, Silas, Declan, Colton, Nathan
and Eliana. Kay leaves her family a legacy of caring and love.
The family will welcome friends at Hannemann Funeral Home, Nyack on Dec. 10 from
3-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A Funeral service will be held on December 11 at the First Reformed Church, 18 S. Broadway, Nyack at 10:00 AM, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may send memorial gifts to the First Reformed Church, Box 565, Nyack, NY
10960 or the American Red Cross.
