Obituary for Vera C. Tyndall

Vera C. Tyndall
Vera C. Tyndall, 92, of Tappan, NY, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2016 at Buckingham Care Center, Norwood, NJ.

Vera Tyndall was born into the Sorriento family in Piermont, NY on October 27, 1924. She grew up at a time when it was not unusual for extended families of multiple generations to live in the same household and the Sorriento’s were no exception. These were the formative years for Vera when the values she would embrace the rest of her life were first developed and nurtured; faith, family, and country.

On May 8, 1943, Vera married John Tyndall of Nyack in St. John’s RC Church in Piermont, NY. To this couple, three sons were born: John, James, and Joseph. As a mother, she stayed busy raising her boys and trying to instill within them the same values she held dear. As a housewife, she was a dedicated partner to her husband and frequently worked outside the home at the Robert Gair plant in Piermont and later in the dry cleaning business. No matter how active she might have been, she always had the time to listen to people and offer whatever help or support they might need. Through good times and bad, Vera maintained a cheerful disposition and found joy in the simple pleasure of being around people.

Vera was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. John’s RC Church. As an unapologetic member of “The Greatest Generation,” she proudly served in the Piermont VFW Auxiliary Post 7462 and volunteered much of her time in matters benefiting our veterans.

She is survived by her sister Carm Albanese (Vincent), Northvale, NJ; her son John Tyndall, Plymouth, MN; her son James Tyndall (Doreen), Valley Cottage, NY; her son Joseph Tyndall (Maria), N. Caldwell, NJ; granddaughters Jennifer, Nicole, Catherine and Elena; grandsons James and Derek; great granddaughter Scarlet; and great grandson Landon.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Francesca and Richard, and her husband of 70 years, John.
Visiting will be held on Thursday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 AM at St. John’s RC Church in Piermont, NY. Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.

Her family asks that any contributions in her memory be directed to the Disabled American Veterans.
