John Whatley a longtime Nyack resident passed away on February 8, 2017. He was 82 years old. John was born in Opelika, AL on August 25, 1934 to Henry and Annie Whatley, he moved to Nyack, NY in 1948. John was a member of the St. Philip’s AME Zion Church in Nyack and was employed as a cook for Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. He was predeceased by three sisters and 3 brothers.
John is survived by two sisters; Mary and Barbara and four brothers; Clifford, Henry, Isaiah and Norman and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Homegoing service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Philip’s AME Zion Church in Nyack, burial will follow at Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY. Visitation will take place on Tuesday morning from 9 AM until 11 AM at the church.
