Obituary for Warren Cozart

Warren Cozart
Warren Cozart was born August 11, 1951 at Nyack Hospital, Nyack, New York, to the late George A. and Vivian S. (Cook) Cozart. He was the sixth child of twelve children born to his parents and the older of his twin brother, Wayne.

Warren was a former member of St. Charles A.M.E. Zion Church, Sparkill, NY, where he received his Christian foundation under the late Reverend Dr. Henry S. Dunbar through the current pastor, Rev. Dr. Louis E. Sanders. In his youth he was active in the church activities which included Sunday School and the Youth choir. After relocating to Middleburg, FL in 2007, he became a faithful member and trustee of New Mount Olive Church (Pastor Ernest L. Taylor).

He attended elementary school in the Orangetown Public School District and later relocated to Nyack, graduating from Nyack High School in 1970. His love for food was satisfied by enrolling in BOCES to enhance his culinary skills. He furthered his education at Rockland Community College where he received a Registered Nursing Degree.

Warren labored hard to attain a certain quality of life. He was employed for 36 years at the Rockland County Psychiatric Hospital where he effectively utilized his nursing skills. There were times when he and his mother, brother, David, sister Maxine were all concurrently employed at the Psychiatric Hospital. He was also simultaneously employed as a full-time nurse at Bergen Pines Hospital, Bergen, NJ for 15 years. He developed a loving relationship among his clients and co-workers. In his later years he was elevated as a nursing supervisor. He successfully retired from both health institutions.

In between his labors, he managed to find time to become a world traveler. His travels encompassed, France, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Germany where he visited with his niece (Ronald’s daughter), Stella Koester.

Warren enjoyed cooking and barbequing for his family, neighbors and friends. He had a very special love for his family in its entirety, co-workers and friends but his relationship with his twin brother, Wayne was extremely close and special. Warren had his own way of making us all feel special.

After the sudden onset of his critical illness, he verbalized and legalized his final request to return to his roots and be funeralized and laid to rest in Brick Church Cemetery, Hempstead, NY, with his beloved mother and the Cozart/Cooks he loved so dearly.

He was called to his eternal rest on June 10, 2017 at his home with his siblings, Maxine and Kevin at his bedside.

He will be dearly missed and leaves behind to cherish his precious memories five brothers and three sisters: Rev. George A. Cozart, Jr. (Mary), Tampa FL; Yvonne Cozart-Royster, Bridgeville, DE; Leonard Cozart, Nyack, NY; Maxine Cozart-Glanton (David, Sr.), Middleburg, FL; Glen Cozart Port Worth FL; Rev.
