Obituary for Anna R. Del Pizzo

Anna R. Del Pizzo
Ann Del Pizzo passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017 at 103 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Carter, son G. Nicholas Del Pizzo (Maria), daughter-in-law Susan Del Pizzo, grandson Stephen K. Carter Jr. (Cynthia), granddaughter Nicole Horsey (Lawrence), granddaughter Sarah Nash (Lenny), and great grand children Lawrence Horsey III and Alexandra Horsey.
She was predeceased by her husband James J. Del Pizzo, her son, James J. Del Pizzo Jr., and her siblings, Nell Fiore, John Donzella, Mary Donzella, Constanza List and George Donzella.
She was born January 17, 1914 in North Tarrytown, NY. She moved to Nyack at an early age and grew up at 198 Main Street, above the family business, Donzella’s Bread. After her marriage in 1933, she devoted herself to caring for her home and family, and raising her three children. She was a dedicated homemaker and a wonderful cook whose Sunday dinners were memorable, and Holiday dinners even better. Her pasta fagiole was famous, and there was often a slice of Italian bread with a meatball and some of her delicious sauce ready for a hungry child.
She was a faithful parishioner at St. Ann’s Church in Nyack, and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society for many years. As her children got older, she began to work outside the home. She was employed for many years at Koblin’s Pharmacy in Nyack, specializing in the sale of fragrances and cosmetics. She also worked in sales at the Rockland Journal-News.
A viewing will be Wednesday, September 27, 4-8 PM at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 S. Broadway, Nyack, and her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 28 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church. 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The Tolstoy Foundation, 100 Lake Road, Valley Cottage, NY 10989.
