1945 -2018

Robert “Bob” Christian, 72, passed on January 6, 2018, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York. He was born to Eloise and John Samuel Christian, on September 7, 1945 in Fairmont, North Carolina.
He attended Hilly Branch High School in Lumberton, North Carolina. After graduating, he attended Shaw University, where he received his Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting. He was employed as an accountant at Chase Bank for 5 years. He then worked at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for 35 years as an accountant. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 5 years. He worked at Martin Luther King Center of Spring Valley until his health failed him.
Also passionate about community work, he served as a volunteer for: The Habitat for Humanity; Treasurer of NAACP of Nyack; and Good Samaritan Hospital.
Deeply committed and always willing to help, Bob was a member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Brooklyn for over 20 years where he served as chairman of the deacon board, choir director, and Sunday school teacher, he was also an Instructor and Representative of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church at the National Southern Christian Leadership Conference(NSCL). Upon moving to Rockland County, he joined Grace Baptist Church in Nanuet, where he was a member for 20 years and served as chairman of the deacon board, a member of the choir, and a Sunday school teacher. In 2012, he joined Park Evangelical Free Church in New City, where he served as a deacon until his health failed him.
He was married to Ann Christian, and two children were made of from their union. Survivors include his wife Ann; his two children Connie Christian of Spring Valley, NY and Robert O. and Leeann Christian of Atlanta, GA; one Godson, David Martin of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren Leah Garrett, Christine Christian, David Martin, Jr, Robert N. Christian, Isaiah Timmons, and Ishmael Christian; one great grandchild Robert W. Christian; two sisters Beverly Johnson of Columbia, SC and Myrtle Moody of Brooklyn, NY; one brother Johnny Christian, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives.
A time of gathering will be held on Friday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Park Evangelical Free Church, 4 Roosevelt Place, New City, NY 10956, with a repass to follow in the Fellowship hall.
