Obituary for Cobia Alfreda Dickerson

Cobia Alfreda Dickerson (1923-2018) Cobia “Freda” Dickerson was born March 24, 1923, the youngest of thirteen children in Evergreen, North Carolina to the late Mary Katherine and George Washington Williamson. She passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Los Angeles, California where she resided with her granddaughter and family. Freda was an extraordinary woman who showed warmth and compassion towards everyone. She began her career as a nurse at Letchworth Villiage, a facility for the physically and mentally disabled. She then worked at Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY for more than 25 years. Retiring in 1991, she received an award for her years of dedication and service, love, caring and professional attitude. During her tenure at Rockland, she also worked weekends with children and families of Saint Dominic’s Home, an organization that placed foster children. Later, she became a successful Mary Kay Beauty Consultant winning a car for her outstanding sales performance. Throughout her life, she maintained a passion for sewing, creating beautiful clothing and drapes that she shared with others. Freda was a devoted member of First Church formerly Hollingsworth Temple in Nyack, before moving to New Jersey . She leaves behind, her granddaughter, Nicole (Nikki) Friday (Jeff ) and great-grandsons, Edison Friday and Ellis Friday; daughters, Evette Dickerson, Regina Dickerson, Antoinette Crump, grandchildren; Rakkell Ricks, Raeven Ricks, Jonathan Brown, Alexa Singleton, Jordan Singleton, Niesha Crump; and nine great-grandchildren. Freda was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed. She was predeceased by her daughter Josephine White and twelve siblings. The services will be held on Saturday, February 17th at First Church, 187 Main Street, Nyack, NY. Viewing from 9-10am and Funeral immediately following.
