Obituary for James A. "Tommy" Marlow

James A. "Tommy"  Marlow

James A. “Tommy” Marlow was born on January 27, 1946, the sixth of thirteen children in Southport, North Carolina in Brunswick County to Mary Gore Marlow and Austin Julius Marlow. He departed his life here on earth on Saturday, February 24, 2018. James was predeceased by his oldest brother, Austin Julius Marlow Jr., his father, mother, and sister Diane Marlow Ward.



James attended the public school system graduating from Union High school in Shallotte, NC. James migrated in 1964 to New York for employment at the Rockland Psychiatric Center as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aide. He worked there for 25+ years until retirement. James also worked many years with the New York Archdiocese caring for at risk youth.



James was joined in Holy Matrimony in June of 1968 to his former spouse, Jeanette Daniel. From that union they had two precious daughters, Ayanna and Syreeta.


James was a devoted and faithful member of the St. Philips African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church for 30+ years.

James leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters : Ayanna Marlow of Spring Valley NY, Syreeta (Nakia) Johnson of Little Ferry NJ, and best friend Jeanette Marlow of Spring Valley NY; five sisters: Gerotha Marlow, Edna Marlow, Leronia Bellamy of Calabash NC; Carolyn (John) McNeil of Little River SC, and Polly Livingston of Wampee SC; five brothers: John (Evelyn) Marlow of Carolina Shores, NC, William (Ann) Marlow of Garner NC, Olland (Mary) Marlow of Carolina Shores NC; Willie (Linda) Marlow of Charlotte NC, and Michael Marlow of Pomona NY; one grandson Julian Alexander Johnson and one granddaughter Leah Grace Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Visiting will be held on Saturday from 9 AM until 10 AM at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Nyack. A Homegoing Service will take place at 10 AM at the church.
