Gertrude J.  Burke
On March 15, 2018 a true angel, By the name of Gertrude Jane Burke, was called home to be with the Lord.
Gertrude Jane Burke (née Coles) was born on October 18, 1925, in Chester Pennsylvania, to the late Robert and Sadie Coles (née Green). She was the third of four daughters born of that union. Her sisters, Beatrice Coles, Annabelle Oakley, and Sarah Deloatch, preceded her in death. .
Gertrude was married to the late William O. Burke. She had 3 daughters. Margurite E. Brooks(deceased), Annabelle Brown Robinson(Pomona N.Y.) and Mary E. Robinson(Atlanta Ga.) Her loving step-children, Cynthia Durbin(deceased) Joseph O. Burke(New Orleans La.) and William G. Burke(Aberdeen Md.)
Gertrude move to Piermont New York, with her family at a very early age. She received her education at the Sparkill Elementary school and graduated from Tappan Zee high school in Piermont New York.
Gertrude attended Macedonia Baptist church with her family at a very early age. She professed her faith in Christ and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend George W. Harvin, and was a devoted and very faithful member of the church until her health declined. She joyfully served at the Macedonia Baptist Church, for many years ,in many capacities. She was a devoted member of the Gospel Chorus,the Floral ministry, and the Usher Board ministry. She also served as President of the Pastors Aide Ministry for over 35years. On Family and Friends day, her family came from far and wide, and showed their support for this loving lady.
Gertrude’s greatest love was her grandchildren. She also loved to travel. She enjoyed visiting her love ones out of state. She also got to go on her 1st cruise in 2012.
Gertrude was a volunteer at the Tappan Zee Thrift shop in Piermont N.Y. for over 35 years.
Gertrude was a loving devoted, Matriarch to her family of (5) generations. She leaves to mourn her memory her daughters, Annabelle and Mary. Loving step-sons Joesph and William. She also leaves 18 grandchildren, 62 great-grans, and 30 great,great-grans.A host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
