Obituary for Roni Handelsman

Roni Handelsman
Rose (Roni) Handelsman passed away on 7/15/18. She was born 9/21/29 to Charles and Sarah Kapchan. She is survived by her 3 children Alan Bennett and his 4 children Mikka, Timothy, Ivan and Sasha; Richard Errol (Peggy) and their 4 children Dawn (Terry), Kate (Michael), Jennifer and Gregory; and Bruce Neil (Eleanor) and their son Ryan (Kristy). In addition she has 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with 1 on the way.
Born in Cuba by Polish and Russian Jewish immigrants, she traveled to the US at the age of 3 where then her younger brother Marvin (predeceased) was born. At the ripe young age of 17, she met and married the love of her life Irving Robert (predeceased). By 19, she was the mother of 2 boys; Dr. Alan and Dr. Richard and by 24 her 3rd son Dr. Bruce. In 1960, they moved to Spring Valley where she raised those 3 boys until they moved to Florida and her boys had families of their own. Irving and Roni had many adventures in their 56 years of marriage. When Irving was called to his eternal life, Roni continued to enjoy her friends and family. She mostly enjoyed all those grandchildren who frequently communicated with her from all over the world.
IN 2015, she moved back to Rockland County to be closer to her family which she cherished the most. She was sharp as a tack, loved CNN, Johnny Carson and more recently Stephen Colbert and always kept up on current events. In her younger years, she enjoyed tennis and cards in her later years, and swore she never cheated. Considering she started at such a young age, she became the matriarch of such a large family and will be missed but loved by all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 18, 2018 from 10-12noon followed by a brief service at 12noon. Burial will be at Star of David cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In lieu of flowers please make donations to United Hospice of Rockland.
