Sister Mary Ellen  Cameron, O.P.
SISTER MARY ELLEN CAMERON, OP, formerly Eileen Cameron, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 71 years died on July 17, 2018. Sr. Mary Ellen was 92 years of age.

Sr. Mary Ellen was born on March 23, 1926 in New York City, the only child of Colin Cameron and Helen O’Donnell Cameron. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on February 1, 1947 from Blessed Sacrament Parish, Jackson Heights, N.Y. Sister Mary Ellen received the Dominican habit on September 1, 1947, professed first vows on September 2, 1948, and final vows on September 5, 1951.

Sister received the BS in Education from Dominican College, Blauvelt, N.Y. and spent many years of ministry as an elementary school teacher. She taught in:
St. Dominic’s School, Blauvelt, N.Y., 1948-1967; St. Luke’s School, Bronx, N.Y., 1967-1969; St. Anthony’s School, Oceanside, N.Y., 1969-1970; Our Lady of the Assumption, Bronx, N.Y., 1970-1979, and St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Bronx, N.Y., 1979-1994. From 1995-2005, Sister Mary Ellen ministered as Receptionist/Secretary at Tolentine Zeiser Community Life Center, Bronx, N.Y. In 2005 Sister returned to St. Dominic’s Convent where she engaged in prayer ministry until the time of her death.

In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Mary Ellen is survived by several cousins.

BURIAL: St. Dominic’s Convent Cemetery

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic, Blauvelt, N.Y.
