Napkin heads and other shenanigans

I was fortunate enough to be part of the Lowe family for a number of years. Marie welcomed me in and made me feel like a part of the family from the moment John and I started dating. I have many memories of Marie from working with her in the emergency room at Nyack Hosp to shopping trips to NJ taken on back roads before she would drive on highways to many family celebrations and holidays. Her clams ala casino were amazingly delicious and a family favorite as were her cream puffs. She was a fun loving grand mother who filled her grandsons lives with love, affection and ridiculously huge piles of presents every Christmas ( we are talking floor to ceiling piles). One holiday when Joey was maybe 2-3 and James was a baby Marie started the after dinner but before dessert napkin head tradition. She tied knots into each corner of a dinner napkin and proceeded to wear it upon her head like a hat much to her grandsons delight. It was a frequent request thereafter. She adored her grandsons and was always up for some fun if the boys were involved. She was a pretty terrific mother-in-law as well. Marie decorated for every holiday including different pictures on the wall, dinnerware, linens and window decorations. Once I became a family member she made sure I too had holiday lines, glassware and more.
