Our relationship with Ricky was based on respect and mutual understanding. The first time I met Ricky we shook hand, and the second time we met, we hugged. We always had long conversations about the things that matter most in life: family, friends, and God. We would show up at his door unannounced, and not once did he turn us away. No matter what was going on in his life, Ricky always found a way to make us laugh. He never shy away from expressing his love for his dear wife, his brother in law, and his nephews, and many more people, whom I wish to meet someday. Over the years, we've witness Ricky's spiritual growth, and in our last conversation Ricky told me:"Jacques, I know God loves me, because he gave me my wife." We read together a passage from the Bible at Luke 15:7 among many others. That evening, Ricky,Yolanda, my wife and I, shared a lot of laughs and that is what I will always remember about Ricky. As we always do each time we parted, we told him: "Hope to see you soon!" because we never made a time to meet, we always trusted that it would just happen. And that is why today we hold on even more to our faith and our hope to see our friend Ricky again very soon... And to you Yolanda, thank you for being such a supporting wife by Ricky's side until the end. We know no words can take away the pain you may be feeling right now. And that is why we will keep on praying for you to find the strength you need to endure during this difficult time and beyond. We have the hope that Ricky will be safely guarded in God's memory as he will be in ours.
