Rosalie G.  Zevnik
Rosalie G. Zevnik passed away on September 25, 2012, four days short of her 91st birthday.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Madge and Joseph Smyth. Rosalie was proud to have graduated with honors from the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. Through the years, she worked as a library secretary in various institutions including the NY Public Library, the Pearl River Library and the St. Thomas Aquinas College library.
In 1945 she met and married Naval Officer and Midwesterner George L. Zevnik. In 1948, they moved to Rockland County and raised their four children in the hamlet of West Nyack.
For many years, Rosalie was an active member of the St. Ann’s Altar Rosary Society and League of the Sacred Heart. In her later years, she was a volunteer at the Nyack Hospital Thrift Shop and at the United Hospice of Rockland, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Rosalie was predeceased by her loving husband George, her daughter Nola Ann Zevnik and her older brother J. Vincent Smyth. She is survived by her son Brian and his wife Georgene of Savannah; her son Neil of Los Angeles and her daughter Maura Heebink and her husband William of Valley Cottage.
Visiting hours will be at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack on Sunday, September 30th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held for Rosalie on Monday, October 1st at 10 am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Nyack.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rosalie’s name to the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter, 65 Firemens Memorial Drive, Pomona, NY 10970 or the United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
