David George Scanlan Sr., age 78 of Upper Nyack, passed away on Wednesday, December 23 after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease. David retired three decades ago after a lengthy career spanning skilled trades from carpenter to machinist. He was a self-taught life-time student with boundless interests spanning nature, finances, history and philosophy. David read voraciously, argued passionately, offered wise counsel, invented and modified endlessly. He often could be found at Hook Mountain reading the New York Times or at home playing his jukebox. A proud former marine he always recalled his service fondly, and loved rock and roll almost as much as his family. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather as well as a loyal and steadfast friend to many.

David is survived by his wife of 31 years - Donna; sons - David Jr. (Karen), Patrick (Beth), Kevin (Julie); siblings - Paul, Peter, Michael, Helen, and Sister-in-law Tina; grandchildren - Ryann, Andrew, Quinn, Amelia, Zara, Nathaniel and Shane; plus his Feline family - Mario, Layla and Smokey Joe.

His family wishes to thank everyone for their visits, calls and kindness during this difficult time. We will miss the light that was David but know that he is 'Swinging on a Star' in 'Rock and Roll Heaven'.
