Obituary for Ursula Vernon

Ursula Vernon of Grand View on Hudson died peacefully in her home on August 13 at the age of 92. Born in Germany, she came to the United States in 1939 with her family and settled in New Jersey. She graduated from Englewood High School and pursued her dream of becoming a fashion designer. After several years of exciting work in New York City, she changed her life’s purpose to one of wife, mother, homemaker and civic volunteer. In 1958, she and her growing family moved to Grand View and began a life-long love of the Hudson River. Her organizational and artistic talents were put to good use in many volunteer capacities benefitting the Piermont Reformed Church, Village of Grand View, Piermont Thrift Shop and Nyack Hospital. She joined the Nyack Hospital Auxiliary in 1962 and served in various leadership positions throughout her 40+ years of service, including Chairman of the Women’s Executive Board. In 1977 she was honored as Rockland County Woman of the Year by the Stony Point Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Nyack Hospital Board of Trustees and in 2001 was awarded “Woman Who Has Made a Difference” for her dedication and commitment to the Nyack Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Donald and daughters Lorena and Carol.
