Obituary for Bessie A. Bullock

Bessie A.  Bullock
God called our beloved Bessie A. Bullock home to eternal rest on Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York with her family by her side. Bessie, affectionately known as “Shuggie”, daughter of the late John and Lottie (Morris) Bullock was born on November 24th, 1937.

Bessie (Shuggie) was a long-time resident of the Piermont-Sparkill area.

Bessie worked as a Legal Secretary in the Rockland County District Attorney’s office for many years before entering into the private sector. For the past 40 years, Shuggie served as the Church Clerk/Secretary for the St. Charles A.M.E. Zion Church with 36 of those years working with Rev. Louis E. Sanders. She was an active member of the Trustee Board, Christian Education Department, Class Leader #1, Lay Council, Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society, the Floral Circle and assisted the late Rev. David Pharr with his Presiding Elder’s’ reports for the previous Long Island District of the New York Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church as well as Quarterly Conference Secretary. She spent numerous hours in assisting the architect with the construction of the Albert & Laurence Holland Fellowship Hall. She was very active in coordinating seminars with the Wellness program. She was a committed, dedicated Christian soul who loved her church and serving God.

She enjoyed and treasured her many friends at the Thorpe Senior Activity Center.

Bessie is predeceased by her siblings, George, Rosalie and Robert.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen and Linda Blow of Pearl River, NY, her grandson, Johnathan Smith of Tappan, NY, sister Annie Bullock, niece Andrea Sullivan, great nephews Jason and Marcus Sullivan, her great niece Karissa Sullivan as well as many cousins and friends.
