Vincent J. Dellolio: Marine, father of 10
Vincent Joseph Dellolio, a Marine who served during the Korean War then returned to Rockland to build a house and raise 10 children in it, died June 2 at his Congers home with his loving family by his side. He was 87.
Vincent was a lifelong Rockland resident. He was born at Nyack Hospital on Feb. 7, 1931 to Angelo and Rose Migion Dellolio.
He attended St. Annʼs School and graduated from Nyack High School in 1948.
He met Cora Lyons In Nyack. The couple eloped and were married in Maryland on March 8, 1952.
Just four days later, Vincent began his service in the U. S. Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia. He was stationed overseas and served his country with honor in Korea.
He returned to Rockland in 1960 and worked for many years as a platemaker at Federal Paper Board in Piermont.
Vincent and Cora raised five sons and five daughters in the home he built by hand in Congers.
Vincent was know for his ability to build things, fix machinery and other objects. He also worked for a home construction company and helped build many homes in the New City area.
He enjoyed swimming and doing puzzles in his spare time. Well into old age he could be found fixing and building items in his home.
His beloved wife, Cora, died on Sept. 5, 1991. A daughter, Rose DePalma, also died earlier as did two grandchildren, Katrina DePalma and Cora Eunice Dellolio. His brothers, Joseph, Nicholas and Angelo also predeceased him, as did a sister, Mary Opel.
He is survived by five sons, Vincent E., Joseph E., Angelo M., Nicholas J. and John F. Dellolio and four daughters, Cora Runyon, Mary Ann Stach, Diane Dellolio and Lori Tracy;
sisters Mildred McCarthy, Loretta Brian, Lois Marine, Rosemarie Manion; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack is handling arrangements. Visitation will be held there from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack. Burial will follow at the
Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead.
