Doloris Charlestta (Peaks/Valentine) Humphries

Doloris Charlestta Peaks was born in Ingram Branch, West Virginia to the late Helene and John M. Peaks on June 4, 1934.

She graduated from Simmons School, in Montgomery, West Virginia.

At the age of 19, she followed her dream and came to New York. She was the first of the family to migrate here from West Virginia, residing in Piermont. Once she arrived, she started babysitting and cooking delicious meals for different families in Rockland. She was known for her homemade rolls and apple pie. She worked at Rockland State Hospital, Orangeburg; The Ribbon Factory, Piermont; Acme Light, Congers before finding her permanent employment at Simon & Shulster where she worked for over 15 plus years in the Englewood, NJ location. In 1988 they transferred her to Old Tappan, NJ. She was offered the option to retire, she gladly accepted that offer.

On July 1, 1989, Doloris retired from Simon & Shulster, in Old Tappan, NJ. After retiring she worked for Home Aids of Rockland from July, 1991 until March, 1996. She was dedicated to helping those in need. She received accolades for her dedication in helping several families.

Along her journey she met Mother Josephine DeLoatch and her family. In 1953 she attended Macedonia Baptist Church service with her. Doloris was a present member until she was called to glory September 28, 2018 at 5:10 pm. She often talked about joining her parents, siblings, spouse, other relatives, and many friends. At Macedonia Baptist Church she was a member of the Usher Board, Nurses Unit, and the Gospel Chorus. Doloris was very faithful in attending Church until her health began to limit her.

In 1954 she wed Theodore Russell Valentine, Sr. (deceased) and from this union they had four children - Theodore (Teddy) Russell, Jr. (Nyack), Vanessa Doloris Valentine-Smith (Lonnie) (Chester, VA), Lydia Veronica Henderson (Newburgh), and Lisa Doreen Valentine-Logan (Michael) (Nyack); five grandsons, Paul L. Harris, II, Shawn A. Harris (Bliss), Arthur M. Henderson, Marcus A. Henderson, Gerald T. Osborne; three great-grandsons: Jayden A. Harris, Bryson A., Braylon A. and one great grand-daughter Aria K. Harris. Doloris was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Eva Myrtine (Clarence) Evans, John Laird Peaks; and husband, Hildred Humphries;

Doloris was very caring, nurturing, loving, and a beautiful person who loved to smile. She was often called mom and grandma by the community of children, young men and women that knew her. She loved her family and friends.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Poinsetta Chapter #76, Spring Valley, New York for several years.

Doloris loved her devoted and loving daughter-in-law Jeanne Valentine (deceased). She leaves to cherish her memory to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Godchildren, a loving and caring sister-in-law Judy A. Peaks and numerous nieces, and nephews.
