Helen Elizabeth (McManus) Costa, 85, of Orangeburg, NY, was reunited on October 31, 2018, with her one and only true love, Edward Costa, who predeceased her July 22, 2001. She was born on July 1, 1933 to Matthew and Helen McManus. She was a graduate of Nyack High School and the Englewood School of Nursing. Helen’s nursing career began at Englewood Hospital and included Nyack Hospital, Valley Nursing Home and 19 years at Jewish Home and Rehab, Rivervale, NJ. She was strong in her faith in God and was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Blauvelt, NY.
Helen’s spunk and personality will be missed by many. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Gloria Mayernik and her brother Matthew (Butch) McManus. She leaves behind her six beloved children, Andrea (Rich) Civitella, Helen (Mike) Bennett, Kathleen (Jim) Mohre, Eddie Costa, Mary Anne (Reid) Konicoff and Nancy (Rob) Donabedian. She is also survived by her, cherished grandchildren, Kristin (Jim) Irace, Jennifer Civitella, Christina (Dustin) Newkirk, David (Erica) Bennett, Laura Bennett, Brandon Mohre, Tyler Mohre, Jared Konicoff, Nicholas Konicoff, Dana Konicoff and Matthew Konicoff; as well as three great grandchildren, Henry Irace, Olivia Irace and Grace Newkirk. Helen is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Skip and Grace Hoffman, her sister, Mary Ann Kendall and her cousins, Margaret McNulty and Janet Kopac.
Friends and family are invited to call at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 South Broadway, Nyack, NY on Sunday, November 4, 2018, from 2-6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Blauvelt, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carlton Court at Allendale Communities for their love and care of mom over the past 2 and half years. They would also like to thank Marisol and Barbara and the rest of the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to mom.
