Obituary for Viviene W. Hill

Viviene Winifred Hill, 81
Viviene Winifred Hill, age “29” died peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018 at her home in Valley Cottage NY, after a yearlong struggle with Pancreatic Cancer. Viviene was born on November 28, 1936 in Kingston Jamaica W.I., she was the seventh child to the late Allan & Winifred Hunter.

Viviene graduated from Saint Hugh’s High School and attended Durham College of Commerce in Jamaica. She was a faithful and active member of her church communities all throughout her life. In Jamaica she was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Calvary Gospel Assembly. She also served several terms as Deaconess and Treasurer at the Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene and at the Elim Alliance Church where she also served as head of the Women’s Ministry Prayer Fellowship (WMPF) for Rockland County.

God, Family, and friends were Viviene’s passion and delight. She grew up in Jamaica and settled in New York with her beloved husband, children and near family. She was generous in heart and spirit and enjoyed hosting and entertaining family, friends and travelers including missionary families, pastors and professors. She loved traveling to visit family and friends, like her decade’s long tradition of summer family vacations at Sacandaga Lake, and trips to Maine, Pennsylvania, Canada & Cayman Islands. She was always enthusiastically planning for the next adventure with loved ones.

Viviene was a wonderful listener and always had words of encouragement for anyone she met. No matter where she went, be it a planned gathering or a grocery store line, she never left without connecting with those around her. Her smile, wit, humor and laughter were bright and contagious. She loved sharing food, song, games and Bible studies with family & friends. Viviene had a brilliant and prolific memory, never forgetting special events and birthdays for family and friends or to reach out in commemoration. Until becoming ill, she was still fully engaged in work as a bookkeeper for Down to Earth Nursery and in church events. This was a testament to her diligent spirit and strong work ethic.

Viviene was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, counselor and was a friend to many. Her friends became family and she has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who she has touched.

Viviene is survived by her husband of 55 wonderful years, Walter C. Hill; their daughters Charlene and Yolanda (Lani); son-in-law Patrick; grandchildren Erin and Quinn; her brothers: Leslie, Neville, Calvin and Regis; her sisters: Shirley, Desrene and Joan. She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and close friends.

The family wishes to thank all who lovingly cared for her during her illness. Donations may be made to the Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene, Elim Alliance Church, or Hospice of Rockland County.
