Obituary for Michel Marrion

Michel Marrion
Michel Marrion was born on October 21, 1942, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and passed away in Rockland County, NY on March 18, 2019, at age 76. He was the son of Tertulia Fidele and Stephen Marrion and was a twin, whose brother passed away at birth.

Growing up in Haiti, he prided himself on being an excellent student. As a child, his love for learning was second only to his love for soccer and childhood shenanigans. After high school, he began working for humanitarian organizations in Haiti. In 1970, he married Marie Phoebe Vital-Herne. Throughout his life, he loved recounting stories of the poems he recited to her while courting.

Michel immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1970. Rockland County, however, is where he planted roots and raised a family. A consummate lover of philosophy and languages, he continued studies at Rockland Community College after moving to the US. He began his career at Letchworth Village DDSO in 1978, retiring in 2003 as a Senior Director. An aspiring entrepreneur, he also started small businesses, including an office cleaning company.

Michel’s warm smile and generous, charming disposition lit up a room. Devoted to his loved ones, he never shied away from taking time to listen and talk with friends and family. He always had a lush and eloquent story, anecdote or Haitian parable on hand to encourage, inspire or coach you through any life situation.

A faithful Christian, Michel loved to pray quietly and sing hymnals. Before going to sleep most nights, you could find him in his favorite armchair, filling the air with a rich baritone and bass notes.

Left to remember his radiant spirit are his sister Carmelite, wife Marie, his son Allen, his daughters Michelle and Ashley, his grandchildren Kaylen and Julian, beloved extended family and close friends.
