Obituary for Frank Peter Franco

Frank Peter  Franco
The grace of God was granted to Frank P. Franco as he entered his heavenly Father’s Kingdom on April 14, 2019. Frank was born on January 13, 1923 in New York City to Fioravante and Angela Maria (Logiodice) Franco. He moved to Nyack, NY at the age of 5 and spent the remainder of his life as a pillar of the Nyack Community. Frank lived his life as a devoted servant to God, his Country and Family.

As a young boy Frank began his devotion to God and the Parish of St. Ann. He attended
St. Ann School and served as an altar boy. Frank was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. He participated on the Parish Council Building and Grounds committee; ushered Sunday Mass; delivered holiday food baskets to the poor as a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and called numbers at weekly bingo. In 2008, Frank was honored for his service and devotion to St. Ann’s Parish at the 122nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Ball.

Frank graduated with the Nyack High School Class of 1942 where he was on the baseball, football and wrestling teams. He was a member of the YMCA Dance Club, the Senior Dramatic Club and was voted best dancer and best mannered in his senior year book. Frank was an avid life-long fan of NHS sports, supporting his children and grandchildren on the sports fields for a span of 70+ years. He could always be spotted in the stands on the 50 yard line cheering on the team.

In January 1943 Frank enlisted in the US Navy. He completed basic training in Chicago, IL and was later stationed in Memphis, Texas and New Orleans as an aircraft mechanic.

Frank was an active member of Orangetown Fire Company #1, of the Nyack Fire Department, where he was the senior member. He had the honor of serving as a firefighter for 69 years, along with his brothers, brother-in-law, son, nephews and niece.

Along with his brother Nick, he owned and operated the Nyack Music Company, supplying juke box entertainment to local bars and restaurants. Upon his retirement, he began a new career as a house painter operating FF Painting.

Frank is predeceased by his wife Gloria, his parents, daughters Susan & Christine, grandchildren Dennis & Susan, all of his siblings: Rocco DiPietro, Nick, John, Ann Bosco, Connie Dellolio and Susie McClelland. Frank is survived by his children Peter (Eileen), Gloria (Charles Tague), Joseph, Regina (Thomas Ryan), Daria (Carl Becker); his grandchildren Heather (Jim Kaste), Diane (Peter Rovida); Michael (Lily), David (Kasia), Matthew Vericker (Lindsey); Genevieve (Danielle), Gabrielle and Felicia Ryan and great grandchildren James and Jack Kaste and Michael and Brenna Rovida. Frank is also survived by his sisters-in-law Birdie Franco and Helen Gunderson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Wake services will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 South Broadway, Nyack on Monday, April 22 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm with a Firematic service beginning at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack on Tuesday, April 23 at 11:00 am, followed by interment with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery, 140 N. Highland Avenue, Nyack. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Frank’s name to the Parish of St. Paul-St. Ann, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY 10920.
