Sr. Alice Mary Goldsmith, RCD, of the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine Nyack, New York died on June 10, 2019 in Nyack Hospital, Nyack, NY.
Born in New York City, NY on April 10, 1926. Alice was the daughter of Clarence and Margaret Goldsmith. She entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine on Sept. 24, 1948, she professed her first vows in May 22, 1951 and her final vows in 1953.
Sister Alice Goldsmith received her BA in Sociology from Hunter College, New York, NY and a MS in Gerontology from College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY.
Sr. Alice’s many years of active ministry were in Pastoral and Youth Ministry, Religious Education, Director of Sr. Citizen Center, Member of Social Justice Committee and in our convent at Madonna House in New York, NY.
Sister’s ministries include: Marydell, Nyack, NY 1945-1955; Ave Maria Convent, NYC, NY, 1956-1958; St.Rita’s,New Smyra, Fl. 1956-1959; St. Ambrose, Elkton,FL 1961-1962; St. Mary’s Eutis, FL 1962-1963; Immaculate conception Senior Center, New York, NY 1978-1987; Church of the Transfiguration, Murray Hill SRO 1988-1994; Florence Nightingale Nursing Home 1991-2006; St. Mary’s Grand Street NY, NY 2001-2010.
For the last five years Sr. Alice spent four years in Adrus-On-Hudson and her final thirteen months were with the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill where she received loving care. We are so grateful to the Sisters
In addition to her religious congregation Sr. Alice is survived by her nieces; Marjorie Janowsky, Maryellen Royce, Alice Curry, Nephews; William and Henry Janowsky; and cousin Gareth Wilmott
Visitation on Thursday June 12, 2019 from 3 pm to 6 PM Dominican convent 175 Route 340, Sparkill, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sparkill, NY on Friday, June 13, 2019 at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, NY, and Arrangements: Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc, 88 South Broadway Nyack, NY
