Obituary for Zoila Estrella Polo
Grand View, NY-- Zoila Estrella Polo, 98/99 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family September 9, 2019 at Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, NY.
Estrella, as she was affectionately known, was born on September 18, 1920 in Los Palacios, Pinar del Rio, Cuba to the late Teresa and Marcelino Amador. She was the eldest daughter of 6 children and was the last of her siblings to pass.
Estrella and her husband, Rafael, fled communist Cuba in 1962. They reunited with their children and extended family in the United States. Together, the family settled into their new lives in Port Chester, NY. She worked in a variety of jobs throughout her long life. From a young age, she was passionate about sewing and embraced her talent to become a professional seamstress and she delighted in making clothes for her family. Estrella was a very compassionate and generous person. She retired from United Hospital in Port Chester NY working as a patient transporter.
Estrella survived her late husband of 59 years, Rafael Polo, who sadly died in 1999 at the age of 83. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving children; her daughter Estrella and her spouse, Hans Bazlen of Grand View, NY and son Rafael Polo of Northville, NY. And her adored grandchildren: Mary Byrne, Teresa Hierholzer and her spouse, John Hierholzer, Erica Polo, and great-grandchildren: James Byrne and Natalie Hierholzer.
