Obituary for Larry J. King

Larry J.  King
Mr. Larry James King went home to be with the Lord and his parents on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
Born on May 8, 1954 in Nyack, New York – Larry, who was also affectionately known as “Sugar Bear” and “Bear” to his family & friends was a humorous child. He often made his classmates and family double over with laughter in the quaint town he grew up in. As a youth, Larry worked at the local community center as a counselor.
He served in the United States Army from 1974 until 1978, Larry graduated Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt, West Germany then later obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Center Texas College located in Lanstul, West Germany.
Larry loved soul music from the 70’s; some of his favorite groups were Blue Magic, The New Birth, The Delfonics and The Commodores to name a few. He also loved attending the annual Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, California where he called home for nearly 30 years – before returning to his beloved hometown of Nyack in December 2017.
Larry King is survived by his daughter Lateefah Simpson (Anthony), his son Jamie King and four grandchildren; Deja, Jada & Jaylon King and Lydia Simpson. He is also survived by his brothers Ron King (Yvette) and Anthony Lee King; sisters Cynthia King and Ella King. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Randolph Sr. & Louise King and a brother Randolph King Jr. He will be missed by many, coast to coast.
Visiting will be held on Wednesday from 5PM to 9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Rockland County VA Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY.
