Obituary for Walter C. Hill

Walter C. Hill
Walter Charnley Hill, 84
Walter Charnley Hill died peacefully on Sunday night October 27, 2019, after a long bout with pneumonia.
Walter was born April 23, 1935 in Spot Bay, Cayman Brac to the late Rosenell Eredia and Minnel Hill. He grew up in Cayman Brac in the Cayman Islands, and would travel back and forth to Jamaica, W.I. with his grandparents. He moved to Jamaica when he was 15 and lived with his uncle and family. Walter then lived in Barbados for a year where he went to school for communications. He then worked at Cableless and Wire in Jamaica.
Walter married his beloved Viviene Hunter in 1963. They moved to the United States in 1966 and ultimately settled in New York with their daughters, Charlene and Yolanda. He had a career in telecommunications, and love of gardening, technology, renovating and woodworking.
He was local patron of missionary ministries, sharing his faith with many, becoming a mentor and pillar in his community. He lived as a faithful and active member of his church communities throughout his life and served several terms as Deacon and Elder at Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene and at Elim Alliance Church. He also served as Treasurer and was active with ARK of Rockland Ministries for over 30 years.
Walter loved sharing his life with his devoted and beloved wife and family and always created a welcoming and loving haven for all who visited. He was a wonderful listener and had a brilliant green thumb. He shared his love of gardening, food and faith. He always encouraged conversations on life, love, family and God with others. No matter where he went, he made others feel special and uplifted with his kindness, charm and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Walter was a wonderful and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, counselor, friend, father figure and brother in Christ to many. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Walter is survived by his daughters Charlene and Yolanda (Lani); son-in-law Patrick; grandchildren Erin and Quinn; his sisters Lorena and Rosemary. He was a beloved father figure to Steven Blum, Jennifer Miller and Susie Blum. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, relatives, and close friends.
