March 27, 1937 - January 28, 2020
Jeanette Matthews of West Nyack passed away peacefully on January 28, 2020 at the Sunrise Senior Living Residence in East Meadow, NY.
She was born on March 27, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to William and Elizabeth Matthews and was pre-deceased by her spouse of 45 years, Evelyn Lombardi, and by her brother-in-law, Dr. Frederick Teyan.
Jeanette is survived by her sisters Jacqueline Seeman (Jack), Margaret Mary Teyan, and Valerie Matthews, her nephews, John, Ken, Gerard, Ricky and Jonathan, her niece and godchild Julie, and many cousins. She will be dearly missed by scores of former students and those she touched through her many community activities.
Jeanette was deeply committed to her many roles at Grace Episcopal Church, Nyack and also served on numerous committees, including chair of voter registration and delegate to the National Convention for many years. She was a teacher for over forty years serving Harrison School District (Harrison, NY) in many roles, including Vice President for the Harrison Association of Teachers.
Family and friends will honor Jeanette’s life on April 18, 2020 at 11 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, Nyack, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Grace Episcopal Church, Nyack, NY.
