Obituary for Marie J. Mildouin Pacaud

Marie J. Mildouin Pacaud
Jacqueline was born in Verrettes in the Artibonite on July 25, 1946, daughter of Remus Midouin and Amarante Jean-Pierre Midouin. She went to primary school les filles Marie in this small village; later she did her Brevet in St Marc, still at les filles de Marie, then continued her studies at the Lycée des Jeunes Filles in Port-au-Prince. Jacqueline then went to l’École des sciences de la santé where she obtained a diploma in nursing. After graduating, she worked at the Albert Schweitzer hospital in Deschapelles, in the municipality of Verrettes, where she was a nurse until 1969. Jacqueline then left Haiti for French Guiana where she stayed from 1969 to 1974. This is where she met Mr. Franck Pacaud, who became her husband. Together, they headed to Paris, France, where she worked as a nurse at the Ambroise Paré hospital. In 1977, the couple gave birth to a daughter named Francesca. In 1978, Jacqueline left Paris to return to live in her native land, Haiti, with her husband Franck, their daughter Francesca, and her step-daughter Lurnie. She worked at the hospital of Canapé Vert as a nurse until she decided to give it up and try her hand at something new in the food wholesale business. She continued the business until the passing of her husband in November 1999, the late Franck Pacaud. In 1990, along with her husband, Jacqueline converted to the Baptist faith and they became members of the Jesus Center Church de Delmas. She became devoted to helping others and started her own community ministry where she provided clothing, food and toiletry to orphanages in Port-au-Prince. In her neighborhood in Delmas 5, Jacqueline was known as the first aid line for anyone in the neighborhood who felt ill. For several years, she travelled back and forth between Haiti and the United States. As a permanent resident, she worked briefly at East Ramapo as a lunch monitor. In 2008, following the birth of her granddaughter Hannah, she decided to settle permanently in the United States in order to help her daughter while making some trips to Haiti. In 2013, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She remained in the United States with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren until her death on February 19, 2020.
Jacqueline was an honest, giving, caring and hardworking woman who strived on a job well done. Not one to shy away or mince words, she would give you her opinion whether you asked for it or not. She was assertive and did not back down easily when faced with adversity. Family meant a lot to Jacqueline. Being the first of her siblings to leave Haiti she took it upon herself to ensure that all of her siblings obtained a better life for themselves and their families. From helping her mother to raise her younger siblings after her father had passed to helping raise nieces and nephews and helping her siblings when they were dealing with hardship, Jacqueline never refused to lend a hand. She also never forgot a birthday, you could always count on her to call you with well wishes on your special day. Jaqueline’s home was always open to family and friends who needed a place to stay. The values she instilled in her daughter were to be self-sufficient, self-respect, hardworking. These values are seen through the actions of her daughter and granddaughter as well as their accomplishments.
She is predeceased by her husband Franck Pacaud, her parents Remus and Amarante Midouin, and her brothers Dumas Midouin and Jean Reguer Midouin.
She is survived by her daughter Dr. Francesca Pacaud-Parker, her son-in-law Gerald Parker and her grandchildren Hannah and Mason. Her step-daughter, Lurnie Pacaud-Charles and her children Jessica, Derrick, and Nikki. Her brothers Calixte (Clémène Midouin), Reslair (Jocelyne Midouin) and Mareth (Eva Midouin). Her sisters Guernita Midouin Dominique, Dina Midouin Salvant Catulle (Berto Catulle), Josenine Midouin and Mimose Midouin Cado (Jean Cado). Her many nephews and nieces and their children. Her aunts, cousins and friends. We ask everyone to join in prayer for the eternal rest of Mrs. Jacqueline Midouin Pacaud following a long illness. Many thanks to family, friends, Berea members for their support and encouragement.
