JOSEPH ANTHONY MONTESANO



Joseph Anthony Montesano of Piermont, NY passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2020 at the age of 93.

Joseph was born November 26, 1926 in Piermont to Carmine and Christina (Chifulio). He was raised in Piermont and graduated from Tappan Zee High School in Jan 1945 . On Jan 17, 1945 he was inducted into the US Army to serve in the Pacific (Japan) with the 1s t Bn, 390t h Infantry during WWII.

At the end of WWII Joseph returned stateside to continue his service at Ft. McClellan in Anniston, Ala. He met his future wife, Audrey Ford, in Ala and after his service ended in 1947, they married and celebrated 71 yrs together in Piermont.

Joseph worked in the Beater Room at Robert Gair/Continental Can Co/Federal Paperboard in Piermont until it closed, and then worked at Mini-Grip in Orangeburg until he retired.

Joseph was a member of the VFW Post# 7462 in Piermont and the American Legion Post# 1044.

Joseph enjoyed fixing things & collecting things and Friday night poker games. He had an outgoing personality and a good sense of humor. He enjoyed being around people to share a few laughs, jokes and stories. He loved his family and Piermont and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his daughters Laura; Johnnie Sue Popov (Andy); son James (Edith); son-in-law Karl Schroers; granchildren, Michael, Valerie, James and great-grandchildren Verity and Hunter. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey; daughter Linda Schroers; siblings John and Philip.

Visitation at Hannemann Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb 26 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral service 10:00 am Thursday, Feb 27 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery.
