Obituary for Doris Jemison

Doris  Jemison
Mrs. Doris Jemison, an Alabama native, departed this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from Nyack Hospital, with members of her loving family at her bedside. She was 82. Doris was born in Marlow, AL to the late Mr. and Mrs. Horace and Lucy Agee Watkins. She was predeceased by her parents, husband: Joe L. Jemison, three brothers: Wilmer Watkins, Robert Watkins and Roy Watkins; one sister: Carolyn Watts; a son: Joe L. Jemison Jr., grandson: Nake Jemison and lifelong family friend Robert L. Waters.
Doris completed her education in Alabama and relocated to New York with her husband. They were blessed with seven children during their marriage. They raised their family in Nyack, NY where Doris was employed at Nyack Hospital for many years. She retired from the hospital as a Supervisor in the Linen Room.
She was an active member of St. Philip’s A.M.E. Zion Church in Nyack for many years until health issues limited her attendance. She served as a Class Leader, Leader of Leaders, Stewardess and was consecrated a Deaconess.
Her memory will be cherished by her children: Andrea Jemison of Fairhope, AL, Brent Jemison of Nyack, NY, Rita Jemison of Haverstraw, NY, Reginald (Harriet) Jemison on Nyack, NY, Eleanor (Jerry) Cox of Spring Valley, NY and Andrew (Danielle) Jemison of Monroe, NY, and Carolyn Katie (Albert) Hargove of Daphne, AL; fourteen Grandchildren: Jerome, Shelly, Brent Jr., Shaqui, Reginald Jr., Amber, Marcus, LaShannon, Darren, Drew, Taison, Peyton, Nadia and Katie; eleven Great Grandchildren: Neveah, Santerrica, Ociana, Jaquan, Kiana, Dramere, Talasia, Ja’kobe, Quincy, Oriana and Princeton; and four Great Great Grandchildren. Doris’ soft and gentle voice will be missed by her Sisters and Brothers: Theresa (Joe) Sledge, Lucy (Michael) Williams, Rose (Tyrone) Robinson of Fairhope, AL. Lenell (Ann) Watkins of Chicago, Israel Watkins, and Horace Watkins Jr. of FL as well as her Sisters and Brothers In-Law: Richard Jemison, Carrie Johnson, Jessie Williams, Jimmie Lee (Joyce) Jemison, Edgar (Patricia) Jemison, Ethel J. Washington of Daphne, AL, Johnny Lee (Michelle) Jemison of Congers, NY Elnora (Lee) Smith and Bessie Watkins. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held for Doris Jemison on Wednesday, March 11, 2020; with visitation 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at St. Philip’s A.M.E. Zion Church, 14 North Mill Street, Nyack, NY 10960. Homegoing Service 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A second wake will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 at Smalls Mortuary, 8822 Country Road 64, Daphne, AL 36526, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Phone: (251) 990-3929. The Final Celebration of Life service at Christian Valley Baptist Church, 367 Young Street, Fairhope, AL 36532, Saturday, March 14, 2020 visiting hours: 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Homegoing Service: 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Daphne, AL.
