Obituary for Samuel Jones

Samuel Lemonia Jones of New Winsdor, NY, formally from Sparkill and Piermont, NY, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2020 at the age of 91.
He was the third eldest of 11 children born July 26, 1928 in Stuarts Draft, Va to the late Luther Jones and Archie Hamilton Jones. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Ruby Ella Mae (Chisholm) Jones, Brother Nathaniel Jones, Sister Nancy Jones and grandson Darrell Evans.
Samuel was a proud WWII Navy Veteran. After returning home, He made his way to New York where He met and began a beautiful lifelong union with Ruby Chisholm. Together, they moved to Rockland county where they raised 4 children. In the early 1950’s, Sam or “Jonesie”, as he was endearingly known, began a 37+ year career as a mental health therapy aid at Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. His compassionate care for the patients at Rockland will always be remembered. A true man of God, he remained an active member of St. Charles A.M.E. Zion Church of Sparkill, NY up until his recent illness. An avid fisherman, Sam loved deep sea fishing and would often sponsor the annual men’s fishing trip for church. In addition he served on the Steward Board, Lay Council, Sons of Varick and the culinary committee). His masterful execution of southern cuisine made him the family favorite in the kitchen. His gentle sweet spirit, inviting smile, infectious laughter, inspirational talks, love for helping others and endless wisdom will be missed by so many who loved and respected him. Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Pop Jones, or Jonesy; No matter who he was to any of us, he made sure that we were all equally loved by him. His strength, and love for his family was a true inspiration to us all.
Having endured many health challenges over the years, and the loss of his true love, in the evening hours of May 17, 2020, the lord called him home to a place of eternal peace, without sickness or pain.
