Obituary for David Bond

David  Bond
David G. Bond was born in Windsor, North Carolina, on November 20, 1940 to James H. and Ruth Epps Bond. He has one sister, Ruth Bond-Cherry. He was married to Dorothy Paige Smith. They have one daughter, Paige Cherie Bond.

David received his BA Degree in Sociology from North Carolina Central University in 1962. He received the MSW Degree from Adelphi University School of Social Work in 1970, the MPA Degree from New York University School of Public Administration in 1973 and was a doctoral candidate in Public Administration. He was a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work at Adelphi University in 1990. He also attended Summer Institutes at Fordham University School of Social Work in Administrative and Agency Operations. He was a Licensed Master of Social Work.

As Founder of Community Action for Human Services, Inc., he was the President/Chief Executive Officer from 1982 – 2013. Prior to founding Community Action for Human Services, Inc., he was Executive Director of Young Adult Institute from 1971-1979; Program Director of Young Adult Institute 1970-71; Director of New York Urban Affairs Office, New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities; Social Work Intern at Brookdale Childcare 1968-79; Social Worker at New York City Youth Council Bureau 1965-1968; and Psychiatric Social Worker at Kings Parks State Hospital, 1962-1965.

David served as Vice President of the North Carolina Central University Alumni Association in New York from 1965-1973 and has been a member since. He is the Founder/Sponsor of the Trudi Ann Bond Scholarship Endowment Fund at North Carolina Central University. He is a member of the Zion Bethlehem Baptist Church and serves as a members of many committee and boards: Advisory Commission on Occupational Education for the Handicapped, former Task Force Chairman; NYC Association of Administrators in Mental Health and Mental Retardation Facilities; Member, Bradford Street Investment Club; Former Secretary, President: Lampados Club of Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., President 1969-1970, Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Basileus, Vice Basileus, Dean of Pledges, Assistant Keeper of Records and Seal, Chapter Editor 1970; National Association of Social Workers: Member: NYC Advisory Commissioner for Developmental Disabilities former Program Chairman; NYS Governor’s Commission of Children; member, American Judicature Society; Coalition of National Health and Mental Retardation Agencies, Inc.: Bronx Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities Council, Former Vice Chairman, Executive Committee, 1982; The Association of Planner and Public Administrators; Member, Association of Black Social Workers; Member, Village of Pomona (NY), New York Former Commissioner of Recreation.

David leaves to cherish his memory to his devoted wife, Dorothy P. Bond, daughter, Paige Cherie Bond, son-in-law, Auden Peters, grand-daughter, Jordan Peters; one loving sister, Ruth Cherry, nieces and nephews: Tammi Bond, Tanzi Cherry, Walter Bond, Jr. and David Bond, and a host of cousins, Barbara Williams, Thomas Williams, Harvey Anderson, Wanda Shields-Simpson, Ernest Shields, Jr,. Leticia Grace and Jerome Grace, The Wilson Family and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. His smile and spirit will remain in our hearts and his legacy will live on forever.
