Sister Lorraine Gosnell, RCD died on August 9, 2020 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Dominican Convent, Sparkill, NY. She was 93.

Born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on July 20, 1927 to Charles Leroy and Mary Ann Gosnell. She entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine on September 24, 1947. She professed her first vows on March 25, 1950 and her final vows on June 6, 1956. Sr. Lorraine received her BA in Religious Education from Fordham University, Bronx, NY and MS Pastoral Counseling, Iona College, New Rochelle, NY
Sr. Lorraine was in active ministry for 73 years beginning as Pastoral Counselor, Religious Education Coordinator, Teacher Training, In-service Training and ending her labor of love with a spiritual counseling support group she started over 20 years ago.

Sister had the gift of listening with her heart, always smiling and gently encouraging all whom she served. She served in parishes of Elkton, FL 1950- 1960 as Local Superior from1960-1962, St. Margaret, Pearl River, NY 1970-1980, Concord, NH 1981-1989, Keene, NH 1992-1994, Claremont, NH 1995-1999-including many years with the New Hampshire Catholic Charities at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 2000-2014- Private individual and family counseling at Marydell Faith and Life Center, Nyack, NY

Sr. Lorraine’s love for music was expressed through her angelic voice that could be heard throughout the convent singing “One Day at a Time”.

In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Lorraine leaves to cherish and honor her loving precious memories, her nieces; Marta and Millie May, Monica Smith, Dorothea Lannin and Barbara Turner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 12 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack. Viewing will be held from 10am – 11am prior to the Mass at the Church. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, NY 10952

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine, 110 Larchdale Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960
