Obituary for Thomas Joseph Wright
Thomas J. Wright, 83, of Nanuet, died Sunday, October 3, 2020 at Nyack Hospital after a brief illness.
He married the one true love of his life, Yvonne M. Reed on May 20, 1962, they raised two daughters in Nanuet, Rhonda and Renee.
Tom was born in the Bronx, on November 29, 1936 to Miriam and Marvin Wright. The family moved from the Bronx to Tappan, NY for his high school years, and he graduated from Tappan High School. He was offered a coveted spot in the IBEW apprentice program which he completed and diligently remained . Tom was a proud member of the IBEW Local 363 and loved everything about being an electrician. He worked throughout the Hudson valley, wherever and whenever needed.
This past September he was proud to receive a Service Award pin honoring 65 years with the Union.
Active in a number of organizations but especially the Red Cross and New York Blood Center, Tom served at innumerable blood drives and donated on a regular basis from 1981 to 2011. He was member of the 10-gallon donation club receiving a pin for this honor. Tom had a passion for all thing’s trains, and was an avid Lionel enthusiast, often combining family trips, with side ventures to railroads or railroading museums. He was known as a friendly and helpful neighbor, always one to help with a project. In earlier years he could frequently been seen walking with his faithful dog T.J.
He loved Clam Bakes, the American flag, any parade, Sunday comics and word puzzles which he could finish with ease.
Tom was preceded in death by wife Yvonne earlier this year and daughter Rhonda Redford, also his mother Miriam, his father Marvin, and stepfather Nick Petrakos. He is survived by his daughter Renee Santelli and son in law Dr. Edward Santelli, three grandchildren Tyler Redford, Alexander and Paige Santelli, brother Donald Wright and niece Eve Mistruli.
The family will be holding a private memorial service for Tom and Yvonne on Monday October 19, 2020. Arrangements are through Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 S Broadway Ave, Nyack NY.
In lieu of flowers donations can be directed to the New York Blood Center or consider a local blood drive.
