Obituary for Steven Wanamaker Sr.

Valley Cottage, NY – Steven A. Wanamaker, Sr. son of the late Homer Wanamaker and Barbara J. Wanamaker, passed away suddenly at age 65 on November 2, 2020. He was born March 6, 1955 at Nyack Hospital. He graduated from Nyack High School in 1973 as an Eagle Scout and an All-American in football. He was also recruited by at least 9 professional baseball teams. Athletically, he pursued his true love of football and attended Penn State University where he played linebacker for legendary coach Joe Paterno.
Steve Wanamaker’s legacy lies in his love for his family. He took after his own father in that he faithfully lived by his values and taught his sons by this example. He showed up in support for his family at every opportunity and he was always there to cheer everyone on from, coaching little league for his three sons to watching his beloved granddaughter, Lulu, at every weeks swim lesson. He was always a phone call away and ready to lend a hand.
Steve was a loyal friend. His faithfulness to the important people in his life could be seen in the way he steadfastly maintained ties with his childhood friends.
His greatest joy was his family. Along with his wife, Lia of 39 years, he is also survived by his children: Steven Jr. (Rachel), Michael, Andrew, and Grandfather to Louisa (Lulu).
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, November 5th from 4-8pm at Hannemann Funeral Home, 88 S. Broadway, Nyack, NY 10960 (845) 358-0573.

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 6th, 10am at Grace Episcopal Church, First Avenue, Nyack, NY 10960.
