Obituary for Frank Ruggiero

Frank Ruggiero
Frank Ruggiero, 73, of Congers, NY passed into eternal rest surrounded by his family at Montefiore Nyack Hospital on January 15, 2021. Frank grew up in Astoria, Queens, son of the late Jane and Antonio Ruggiero. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn, daughters Evelyn Rizzo and her husband James of Islip, NY and Elizabeth DeKams and her husband John of New City, NY. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Christopher and Ella Rizzo and Luke and Claire DeKams. His sister, Jane Morreale of Trumbull, CT survives.
Frank was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga, CVA-60. He retired from the United States Postal Service after more than forty years, working in both Nyack and White Plains, NY. He was an avid golfer and a member of the former Rockland Valley Golf Club at Rockland Lake State Park where he and his golf partner won the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Net Team Tournament in 1988.
He was both of his daughters biggest competitive swimming supporter from club teams to high school to the NCAA. He almost never missed a meet and actually enjoyed getting up at 4:30am to drive accross the Tappan Zee Bridge to White Plains for 5:00am workouts, only to do it all over again for evening practice. He was the consummate “Girl Dad” who was involved with all of their activities. He was a very proud grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and attending their athletic events, recitals and other activities. He was always present for their first days of school to see them off on the school bus.
A wake will be held on Monday, January 18th from 2-6pm at Hanneman Funeral Home, 88 S. Broadway, Nyack, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 19th at 10:00am at St. Paul’s Church, Lake Road, Congers, NY.
