Obituary for Gloria Giordano

Gloria Giordano (nee Ruggieri), 93, died peacefully on April 6, 2021. Gloria was a resident of Upper Nyack, N.Y. and Naples, Fla. and formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y. Born in Brooklyn on September 21, 1927, Gloria met, and later married, her late husband Joseph (a retired NYC Policeman) there. Gloria and Joe were married for 59 years, and raised three children: Stephen, Stanley (Sandy) and Gloria.

As one of the earliest woman entrepreneurs in the garment industry, Gloria worked tirelessly and came to own a coat factory in Brooklyn until her retirement. Joe, Gloria and their family later moved to Rockland County, where Gloria became a dedicated member of her church and volunteer to The ARC Rockland; for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Inspired by their son, Sandy, Gloria and Joe were dedicated workers on behalf of those with disabilities.

Gloria is survived by her children, daughter-in-law Mary, son-in-law Thomas, grandchildren, Stephen and his wife Jennifer, Kristen, Daniel, Joseph, William, and great-grandson Max. Gloria will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and by her friends for her kindness and warmth.

Visitation will be held at St. Ann’s Church, 16 Jefferson Street, Nyack, N.Y. on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A virtual Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at St. Ann’s starting at 10:00 AM over link reachable on church website SPASAPARISH.ORG.
