Born on October 17, 1961, William Edward Demarest, Bill, was born in Woodside, Queens New York to Carole (Bobb) and Gerard Demarest.

He attended Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School in Woodside, NY, and Iona college, in New Rochelle, NY, where earned a degree in journalism. He career had him working with many local and national newspapers to include The Journal News, The New York Times, The Daily Record, The Star Ledger and Patch. As a journalist and as an American, he strongly believes in the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment - Freedom of Speech, Religion, the Press, Freedom of Assembly and the Freedom to petition the government. In the 1990’s, He taught journalism at Iona and was the advisor for the Rockland community college student newspaper.

Bill played a major role in beginning a local news and views web page in many areas with Patch.com. He became a familiar face around most establishments and was known to many officials as one they could count on to give a fair review.

Bill had a way with words that many will never know. He was able to tell a story with emotion. He was able to give all sides of an incident without being partial to one person. He gave the facts. He is the last of a different generation of journalists.

Bill married Lisa Blauhut, of Piermont NY, on October 4, 1991. Together they raised two children, Sam and Sarah. Bill took great pride in his children through their sports. He always made sure that they were taken care of and that he was involved.

Bill loved baseball. Whether it be playing, watching the Mets, or umpiring. During his years with Nyack Valley Cottage Little League as head umpire, he was able to enhance the leagues umpire program by enabling and teaching youth participants to become umpires. Through the years, Bill joined and lead local and national umpire programs.

Bill was an avid history lover. He loved reading and learning about American History. If there was an obscure fact, Bill knew it. One learned quickly to never play scrabble with him. He’d beat you everytime.

Bill struggled through a long and difficult battle with cancer. On his 60th birthday, October 17th 2021, Bill was able to find peace and passed away at Nyack Hospital with his family by his side.

The family wishes to thank Nyack ER, the entire staff at Nyack Hospital 2 Doctors, and Starr Miller from Nyack Home Care.
