Anna Nocera Keefe – May 26, 1922-May 10, 2022
Anna Nocera Keefe of West Haven, CT, formerly of West Nyack, NY, departed this life on May 10, 2022, peacefully at home. She was born in Haverstraw, NY to the late Carmelo and Rose (Masterjohn) Nocera. She was married in 1949 to the late Harry Elwood (“Ellie”) Keefe until his death in 1983. Anna grew up in West Haverstraw, graduated in 1940 from Haverstraw High School, where she was a drum majorette with her best and lifelong friend Josephine “Sha-Sha” Savoury. Anna and Harry moved to West Nyack in 1959, where she lived most of her life. She was a working mother, as a short-order cook at Scotty’s luncheonette in West Nyack, and later worked at Prentice-Hall Publishing Company, and then Simon and Schuster Publishing Co. in NJ. Anna also had a talent for hairdressing, which she gladly bestowed upon her friends and family. Anna was a strong and independent person, evidenced by obtaining her driver’s license at the age of 54. She is survived by her children Patrick (Susan) Keefe of Bradenton, FL, and Diane (the late Robert Law) Keefe of West Haven, CT; grandchildren Audrey (Miles) Nelson of Tucson, AZ, and Julie Keefe of Morristown, NJ; and great grand-child Oliver, of Tucson, AZ. Besides her husband, Anna was predeceased by her son Michael Keefe; siblings Mary Kresl, Joseph Nocera, and Pauline Keefe; son-in-law Robert Law; and her best friend Josephine “Jay” (Sha-Sha) Savoury. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at 10 am@ St.Ann’s Church, 19 Jefferson St., Nyack, NY. Friends may call from 9 – 10 am at St.Ann’s Church prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St.Jude’s: ALSAC/St.Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St.Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
