Joseph Emmanuel “Mano” Metellus was born on January 1, 1930 in Cuba, grew up in Haiti and was proud to be Haitian as well as being born in Cuba. As a child, he grew up in Jacmel and Petion-Ville, Haiti. His mother passed away when he was 12 years old.
He arrived in the United States in the 1960’s and resided in Nyack, New York. He studied Electrical Engineering and worked for Kay Fries Industries Hazardous Waste Disposal in Haverstraw, New York and as a Medallion Taxi Driver for the New York City Taxi & Limousine Services.
He had many stories to share and one of his fond memories and favorite things to do was watch black and white movies with his friends on Sundays for 25 cent in Haiti.
We have lost an important figure in our lives, if we take a moment to remember “Mano” for the things he has done for each and every one of us we will see the list is long, he always took the time to reach out and let us know he was thinking of you, he did little things that helped just when you needed it, he also gave you kind and encouraging words that always let you know that he was always on your side.
Mano will always have a special place in our hearts and we were blessed he lived a long life.
Mano leaves behind to cherish in his memory, daughters, Yanick, Aglaye, Emmanuella and sons Patrick Tony and Herby and grandchildren Anthony, Xavier and Calypso and great granddaughter Arielle and a host of step-children and friends.
