Obituary for Robert A. Katenkamp

Robert A. Katenkamp
Robert A. Katenkamp of Acworth, Georgia died peacefully with family and friends by his side in Pensacola, Florida. Bob had a massive stroke on March 14th while on vacation in Destin, Florida. He was 70 years old.
Bob was born in Nyack, N.Y. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert A. and Delice Katenkamp. Bob is survived by his sister Darlene E. & Robert Challacombe, nephew James J. & Maureen Challacombe, and their 2 children Luke James & Faye Ryan, and many dear friends.
Bob became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13. He was very proud of this achievement. He followed the Scout code of conduct throughout his life.
He graduated from Pearl River High School in 1964 and attended Harper College (known now as Binghamton University). He received his degree in Anthropology. After owning 2 restaurants in upstate New York, Bob decided to move to Atlanta, where he opened a restaurant with his friend Corky Rosen, called “Coberts”. While owning Coberts, Bob attended Georgia State at night for 3 years receiving his law degree.
Bob then joined his friend Alan Nicholsons Law Firm in Marietta, Georgia. The firm was re-named: Nicholson & Katenkamp. After many years with Alan, Bob went on to have his own practice.
In 2003 while Bob had his practice, he commuted to Harvard in Cambridge, MA. He received a Masters of Education in 2004. It was a dream come true. Bob was an incredible person and brother. He was laid back, engaging, personable, funny and one of the best story tellers. He had a subtle sense of humor that could leave you laughing and thinking at the same time.
But Bob was also conversant on many topics and could impress you with his intelligence and open mind. He was a great listener and always open to hearing the opinions of others. He touched the lives of so many people. To sum it all up Bob brought out the best in everyone.
A celebration of his life will be held on May 6, 2017 at 11:30am at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc.. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack. A wake will be held from 10am – 11:30am at the funeral home.
Bob loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations to the animal shelter of your choice. Thank you.
