Obituary for
Sheila M. Jardine
JARDINE–Sheila, born in 1939, succumbed to complications of Parkinson´s disease on January 8, 2022 after a long illness. The daughter of Irish immigrants and the youngest of six siblings, Sheila grew up on 83rd Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan, earned her MSW degree from Fordham University, and served as Director of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services for Rockland County for two decades while maintaining a part-time private practice in psychotherapy. Sheila´s love of the arts extended to everything from opera to chamber music to jazz, and included visits to galleries and museums. She traveled widely, loved to read, and was an avid fan of theatre and film. She stayed physically fit through long walks from Nyack to Piermont and back. A pioneering feminist, Sheila helped create a day-care center in the early 1970s for the children of working mothers. Beloved for her generosity, empathy, and compassion, she was a dedicated friend and loving mother and grandmother. Sheila is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Jardine, her husband, David Beisel, and four grandchildren, Shayne, Kayla, Isabella, and Dylan Jardine, and a step-son, Jordan Beisel. Due to restrictions imposed by COVID, the family will honor Sheila´s rich and rewarding life in a private Celebration of Life ceremony. Friends and family can honor her memory by a donation to Operation Smile.
