Obituary for William John "Bill" Nedelka

William John "Bill" Nedelka
William “Bill” John Nedelka of Wilmington, NY passed away peacefully on February 7, 2022 after a short illness.

Born in Orangeburg, NY to the late Victoria and Michael Nedelka, he graduated Nyack High School in 1951, playing football and making the second team All-County, a fact that he was VERY fond of sharing.

Bill served in the National Guard, attaining the rank of Corporal, and was honorably discharged in 1961. A long-time owner of Print Sprint in West Nyack, he retired in 1993 and moved with Betty, the absolute love of his life, to the Adirondack Park in upstate NY…the other love of his life.

Spending time at the Orangetown Fire House, Mae’s pub, or the King Pin Bowling Alley; Bill was the life of the party. He would share a joke, a beer, or a fishing rod and was always up for an adventure. In 1952 he went on a chance fishing trip to the Adirondacks and so began a 69 year relationship inside “the blue line”. A small fishing/hunting cabin turned into a year-round home and a retirement rich with fishing trips with his brothers and friends, trips to the casino with his sisters, award-winning gardening and fine woodworking.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Betty in 1994, his brothers Vic and Steve, his brother-in-law Chip Gallo and his sister-in-law Marty. He is survived by his sisters Betty and Mary Anne, both of Upper Nyack; stepson Kenneth (Camille) Hockett; and stepdaughters Wendy Hockett and Brenda Hockett Jones. He will also be missed greatly by an extended and extensive family of nieces and nephews, whose relationship titles defy the importance of their presence in his life, and he in theirs.

Funeral arrangements are private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orangetown Fire Company.
