Obituary for Robert T. Newman

Robert Newman 85 of Congers, NY passed away on February 25, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Robert was born in Alhambra, C.A. on August 3, 1936 to Margaret (McAvoy) and Paul Newman. Robert attended St. Ann's School in Nyack where he served as an Alter Boy. He graduated from Nyack High School. In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Carole Firman. They settled in Congers, NY where they raised their four children.

Bob's legacy lies in his love for his family. His strong sense of community was displayed by his countless hours spent on the baseball field as a coach for the Congers Little League, and on the gridiron coaching for the Valley Cottage Indians. He was a father figure for the countless children's lives he coached.

Bob supported his children at every opportunity and was always present to cheer them on, whether it be at the shooting range, athletic fields, skating at Swartout Lake, or watching races at the Orange County Speedway. He had no greater joy than watching his 11 Grandchildren grow over the years, and was always present for their milestones and accomplishments. Over the past 3 and a half years, his love has grown even more with his 3 great Granddaughters. He was happiest when his family members were around.

Robert was preceded by his wife Carole. He is survived by his brother Paul Newman (Marion), his children Kathleen Steinmann (Alwin) Golden Colorado, Laura Ryder (Ted) Upper Nyack, NY, Barbara DeSimone (Patsy) Congers, NY, and Robert Newman (Lisa) New Egypt, NJ. Grandchildren Kevin, Katie, Annie, Michael, Matthew, Chelsea, Teddy, Robert, Amanda, Marc, Bryan and 3 great granddaughters, Ava, Mia, Macie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
