Obituary for Arthur Petricone

Arthur Petricone
Arthur Petricone died on March 8, 2022 in Nyack, NY. Born in Somerville, MA, on March 4, 1929, the fourth child of Italian immigrants and the only one born in America, Art went out on the road as a jazz musician playing the trumpet at 17. He lived in Queens, NY, Westport, CT and Piermont, NY.

As he came of age and the Korean War started, he was determined to go into the service as a musician. He wrote many letters to the band leaders in each branch, finally auditioning and earning a spot in the United States Navy Band. After the war, in NYC, he continued to play on the jazz scene through the 50s and 60s. In 1968, with a growing family, he moved onto his second career as a director of animation, opening his studio, Ovation Films, where he directed cel animation commercials until the mid 1990s. Music and jazz remained one of the most important parts of his life.

Art is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ingrid, whom he married in 1960. The couple began a family, first with the arrival of their daughters, Lise, Lotte and Nina and expanded over time to include daughter in law, Marlene, son in laws Michael and Charley; and six grandchildren, Miles (Nomi), Lucas, Coby, Drew, Emmy, and Matti. He is survived by his nieces Cindy and Paula, nephews Lenny, Marc and Neil, and family in Danmark, Peter, Joergen, Erik, Niels, Tina, Kirsten, and great-nephews and nieces. He is also predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Connie, and brother Paul.

Art loved his family unconditionally, and was at his happiest when surrounded by his girls, their spouses and his grandchildren. We are grateful that we had the opportunity to surround him with that love one last time for his 93rd birthday.

He will live on forever in our hearts.

Services will be private. A memorial will be held at the home of Lotte Petricone in Nyack, NY on Saturday, March 12 between 4-6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nyack Musicworks whose support made musicians out of his grandchildren.
