Obituary for Norton A. Newman
Norton Abraham Newman, 94, of Nyack, NY passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022.
Norton is survived by his son David, daughter-in-law Kathy and son Barry. Then, there was his adopted family who'd gather around him every Thanksgiving: Kathy's daughter Alicia, her husband Dom and their sons Sal and Dominic. Norton was a beloved resident at Tappan Zee Manor for over four years, ready with a laugh, a "thank you" or a kind word.
Norton's heart and soul could best be understood in the music that he listened to on WQXR NY for many decades. Beethoven's symphonies, though, were his true inspiration, especially the Ninth Symphony with its soaring fusion of voices and orchestra, all devoted to the ideal of humanity's joyous bond.
Norton was also a lover of Dobies like Ranger who was a gentle and constant companion. Neither ever tired of the physical contact that describes their days and years together.
Norton's kindnesses to people in need will never be forgotten, be it a dispossessed friend or neighbor, or those facing lonely last days.
A graveside funeral service arranged by Hannemann Funeral Home will be held at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery on October 14, 2022. The family would welcome donations to the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute.
