Obituary for Aubrey Jerome Mason Jr.

Aubrey Jerome Mason Jr.
Aubrey Jerome Mason, Jr. entered eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 30, 2023. He was the eldest of four siblings, born in Harlem, New York on April 2, 1933, to the late Hortense (Jones) and Aubrey Jerome Mason, Sr. The family later relocated to Yonkers, New York.
Aubrey received his education from the Yonkers Public School System, graduating from Roosevelt High School. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his tour, he served in Seoul, Korea during the Korean War, (1951-1955). His rank was that of Airmen First Class and worked as a Communication Center Specialist serving his country on the front lines. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1955.
Aubrey was employed by the Tarrytown Police Dept, where he began his 20-year career in law enforcement as a patrolman, rose to the rank of Sergeant, and retired as the first African American Police Lieutenant. After retiring from the police department he was later employed at IBM Corporate Headquarters in Armonk, NY as a corporate chauffeur. There he met his beautiful wife, Monica (Taylor), and were joined in Holy Matrimony on March 29, 1986. From this union was born, a
very special set of twin girls, their pride and joy, Kimberly and Tiffany. Due to their premature birth, Aubrey devoted much of his time nurturing and caring for his girls. It wasn’t unusual to find Aubrey “hanging” out with his daughters in a restaurant.
Although Aubrey was somewhat unassuming, he did things behind the scenes, not wanting any recognition. Under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Walter Brightman, Jr; after prayer and persuasion, he assumed the responsibility of mentoring the young men of St. Paul’s. Under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Marvin D. Hooks, Sr; he rededicated his life to Christ. Then he decided to join St. Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Spring Valley, NY in 2017, under the pastorate of Rev. Melvin J. Mungin. Although he was a quiet member, you could usually hear his loud “Amens” during one of Rev. Hook's sermons or Rev. Mungin’s prayers.
Aubrey, known to some as “Junior”, “crunch-head”, lieutenant, AJ, Bro, Granpo, “Brother-in-law”, “Old Man” and “Uncle Junior" enjoyed all genres of music, especially smooth jazz, and R&B. He also enjoyed playing Bid Whist and Spades.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife, Monica; daughters, Donna, Michelle, Robin, Kimberly, Tiffany, and son, Kendall; grandchildren Kiwanna
Warren, Dewan (Kelly) Couch, Tre'von Sr., Re'Quanna, Re'Vaughna, Javanna, Brandi, Makalia, Kendall “Papa'', Mahlia, and Yoel and his great-grands; sisters, Esther (Price) and Marion (Brown); nieces, Linda, Jeanine, Carolyn, and nephew Douglas Jr.; sister-in-law (Arlene Worthy), his very special sista-in-law, Francine Townsend, and a host of family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, son Michael, and brother Douglas. Even until the very end he tried to pull rank until God pulled His rank
