Obituary for Gladys Jean Baptiste

Gladys Jean Baptiste
Gladys Claire Michaud, was called to rest on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was at home surrounded by family. She entered the world on August 21, 1939 as a native of Port-a-Prince to Luc and Ann Michaud. Gladys was a loving sibling to four sisters and five brothers. At the age of 22, Gladys left home to marry the love of her life, Arthaurd Joseph Jean-Baptiste on March 10, 1962. In 1970, and three children later; Gladys immigrated to New York on a working Visa as a dressmaker. Although never working as a dressmaker, the migration to Nyack, NY, offered an opportunitiy for her to obtain employment with American Tack Hardware of Monsey, NY.

Gladys was a strong and virtuous woman invested in her family. She completed her family with the birth of her fourth child in 1972. It was in 2008, when she retired from American Tack Hardware with 40 years of dedicated service. Gladys was a true matriarch of faith, family and fellowship. As a faithful servant of God, Gladys joined St Ann’s Church of Nyack, NY in 1970. Gladys remained a faithful member of St Ann’s until 2000 when she moved to Chestnut Ridge, NY and joined St Joseph Catholic Church of Spring Valley. Her appointment as a member of the Charismatic elite, allowed her to continue her task of leading saints to Christ. Gladys loved to pray, travel, and participate in pilgrimages across the United States and in Canada. She also enjoyed her family, taking care of her plants, and never missed an opportunity to sleep (“dormi douce”). Gladys will truly be missed.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Luc and Ann Michaud, and her siblings, Cecile, Jacques, Sylvester, Victor, Caridad, Marie Marthe (Jou Jou), Luć, and one who died young.

Gladys leaves behind to cherish her life and legacy, her life partner of just short of sixty-one years, Arthaurd Joseph; her children: Euler (Pamelar), Micharlie (Pascal), Dysarth (Tanya), Stanley (Susan), thirteen grandchildren, Wendell(deceased), Charles (CJ), Brandon, Bryan, Julius, Louis, Shenine, Gabrielle, Pascale, Abigail, Joland, Alisha, Dylia; eleven great-grand children, Neaveh, Emoni, London, Kyree, Amahree, Kristian, Landon, Koen, Maya, Millie Rose; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Special acknowledgement to her niece and nephew Damus and Ketley Almoza for all that they have done.
